Rainfinity Selected by UPSIDE Magazine as 'Hot 100' Private Company for 2000

Fifth Annual UPSIDE Hot 100 Award Recognizes Company's Innovation, Leadership and Performance

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, May 19, 2000 - Rainfinity, the provider of Internet Reliability Software™, announced today that it has been selected as one of UPSIDE Magazine's Fifth Annual Hot 100 private companies. Each year, the coveted awards spotlight the top 100 privately-held technology companies.

Rainfinity, which won an UPSIDE Hot 100 Award in the "Internet Infrastructure" category, was one of 100 companies singled out by the editors of UPSIDE and an advisory panel comprised of venture capitalists, financial analysts and market researchers. More than 1000 companies were nominated this year for awards, which were judged on the company's technological achievements, customer acceptance of products or services, financial performance, industry partnerships, financial backing, management savvy and marketing. The complete list of the UPSIDE Hot 100 Award winners is published in the June issue of UPSIDE, and can be found online at http://www.upsidetoday.com.

"We evaluated hundreds of great companies spanning a broad range of Internet-related market segments, and are pleased to recognize Rainfinity among this year's winners," said David Bunnell, UPSIDE CEO and Editor. "We feel confident that these 100 are among the best young companies in the world."

Olivier Helleboid, CEO of Rainfinity said, "From the beginning, Rainfinity's focus has been to develop and perfect a unique technology for a series of software products designed to ensure Internet availability and security. We believed that if we did that well, our success as a company would be ensured.

"Being selected as one of UPSIDE's Hot 100 companies is a truly wonderful affirmation that we are on the right track, reflecting as it does the knowledgeable opinions of so many recognized experts in the technology field."

Recently, Rainfinity announced a major breakthrough in simplifying networking infrastructure by combining security and traffic management into a single-layer Internet front-end. The new technology, Rainfront, for the first time integrates multiple layers of firewall HA, Web server load balancing traffic management devices and other dedicated point solutions, into one highly scalable Internet front-end platform. Rainfront eliminates the need for dedicated devices and reduces cost and complexity significantly.

Based on Rainfinity's core technology, Reliable Array of Independent Nodes (RAIN), Rainfront clusters together any number of Internet front-ends. Rainfront incorporates Rainfinity's patent pending Highly Available Internet Link (HAIL) technology to ensure continuous availability of all Web servers connected to Rainfront. When Rainfront detects any Web server hardware or software failures, it automatically shifts traffic and sessions to the remaining healthy Web servers, without interrupting service or disconnecting any HTTP sessions that were running on the failed Web server.

About Rainfinity
Rainfinity develops and markets scalable Internet Reliability Software, designed to ensure the continuous reliability and maximum performance of the Internet. Rainfront builds on the highly successful product Rainwall that was introduced in 1999. Based on its unique distributed server clustering technology, Reliable Array of Independent Nodes (RAIN), Rainfinity products alleviate performance and communications bottlenecks and ensure uninterrupted Internet service.

Rainfinity's core technology, RAIN, is a patented clustering technology that was conceived and developed by a team of Caltech scientists who are among the company's founders. They worked in collaboration with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to develop a superior distributed clustering technology for next generation space-borne computing systems.

The Caltech team formed Rainfinity to bring this technology to the commercial market, focusing specifically on applying RAIN's exceptional availability, performance and scalability characteristics to mission-critical Internet applications.

Rainfinity develops products for Red Hat Linux (NASDAQ: RHAT), Microsoft NT and (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Sun Solaris (NYSE: SUNW) operating systems. Rainfinity's corporate headquarters is located at 1901 Landings Drive, Mountain View, CA, with research offices in Pasadena. European offices are in London and Munich.
